    Animals:Animals were from two families of horses with unknown white spotting phenotypes: 1) a Quarter Horse stallion and four offspring; and 2) six half-sibling American Paint Horse/Quarter Horse and their dam.
     Breeds associated:
    Design:Animals were screened for candidate variants in the KIT and MITF genes.
    Analysis:A chi-square test was used for statistical analysis of significance between genotype/phenotype of cases and controls.
