QTL Experiment in Brief |
Animals: | Cattle maintained by the USDA MARC, Clay Center, Nebraska used in this study have been selected for increased ovulation rate since 1981. Two sire families were chosen for the study. |
Breeds associated:

|
Design: | Raw ovulation rate was measured in each female through rectal palpation by MARC personnel starting at 12–13 months of age. Measurements were recorded for 6–10 oestrous cycles. Ovulation rate EBVs were subsequently calculated using BLUP. |
Analysis: | Both sire families have previously been genotyped in a genome-wide scan for ovulation rate QTL. Selective DNA pooling was used to genotype 61 (802) and 59 (803) microsatellites that fill the gaps in marker coverage. |
