    Animals:Paternal half-sib families were constructed from pedigree records collected by the Japan Wagyu Registry Association (Kyoto, Japan). DNA samples were available as part of a systematic program for collecting DNA at slaughterhouses.
     Breeds associated:
    n/a
    Design:Body weight at the slaughterhouse, carcass weight, rib eye area, rib thickness, subcutaneous fat thickness, carcass yield estimate, and beef marbling score were measured by the Japan Meat Grading Association.
    Analysis:DNA samples were prepared from semen, blood, or adipose tissue according to standard protocols, and the DNA concentration was adjusted to 20 ng/ll. PCR was performed. Following PCR, alleles were resolved by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels.
